Benny’s Surf Club

Surfing was once a religious practice for Hawaiians. Since then, it's spread throughout the world and become a widely popular sport—largely because of its association with freedom and pleasure. Despite its popularity, there are still so many people who don't have access to the sport or a community to look to.

Joanie and Momo are two surfers who started @bennys.club, in the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens, New York, in an effort to build the community they'd always wanted. We spent a day with them to find out why they started this collective and how it's impacted their own relationships to the sport.
